Ready to take your drawing skills further? This four-week, semi-private workshop is designed for enthusiastic beginners who already have some drawing practice under their belt, as well as artists with more experience who want to keep growing. It’s not a true beginner class, so you’ll get the most out of it if you’re comfortable with basic sketching and ready for a challenge.
We’ll work mainly in graphite and charcoal, but you’re welcome to bring other mediums you have experience with. Each week builds on the last as we sharpen your eye and refine your technique, with time spent on the human form and face so you can draw people with more confidence and accuracy.
What we’ll cover:
- Line quality, contour, and expressive mark-making
- Perspective and drawing three-dimensional form
- Value, light, and shadow for more realistic depth
- Composition and creating a finished drawing
- Gesture drawing to capture movement and energy
- Figure proportions and anatomy basics
- Drawing the face, including features and proportions
Drawing is a valuable skill no matter what kind of art you focus on. It can serve as the foundation for a painting, a quick way to communicate an idea, or work alongside another medium to create a beautiful finished piece.
We’ll meet every Thursday morning from 10am–12pm for four weeks. The price covers all four sessions.
Dates: March 4, 11, 18, and 25
You’re welcome to bring your own materials, or you can add our artist-grade drawing kit for $50. These supplies will last long after your class ends, so you can keep practicing and playing on your own between sessions.
The class kit includes:
- Compressed graphite sticks in 2H, HB, and 2B
- Faber-Castell graphite drawing pencils in 2H and 6B
- Compressed charcoal sticks in 2H, HB, and 2B
- General’s charcoal pencils in 2B and 6B
- Willow charcoal (3 assorted sticks)
- Fabriano spiral-bound drawing pad, 11x14
- Double pencil sharpener in magnesium
- General’s kneaded eraser
