Matisse & the Magic of Color: A 4-Week Painting Workshop! (October)

Step into the world of Henri Matisse in this immersive, four-week painting course! Perfect for all skill levels, this semi-private class explores Matisse's iconic works, techniques, and the magic of color through fauvist painting. Not sure what fauvism  (fow-vi-sm) is? Don't worry, you will learn! Fauvism is just the fancy art name for the style of painting Matisse is best known for: Bright, pure color and expressive form and composition.

Each week, we’ll dive into Matisse and his pioneering of the Fauvist style : his brushwork, approach to color, and the emotion portrayed in his artwork. You’ll start by painting a master copy of one of Matisse's famous works to understand his process, then apply those techniques to create your own original Fauvist style painting. We will work in acrylics for this class! ( Please feel free to work in oil pencil or wax crayons in addition! 

Through guided instruction, you’ll learn:
-  How Matisse captured color and movement
- Bright brush techniques and color blending (plus some color theory) 
-  The power of loose, expressive strokes

We’ll meet Tuesdays from 6-8PM for four weeks (October 7, 14, 21, 28). The course fee covers all four sessions.

We ask that you provide your own materials for this class - I will send you a list of suggested materials after you sign up. This way, you have everything you need to keep practicing and playing on your own between group meetings.
