Spring Flower Craft

Kids

At Vino and van Gogh we have a variety of camps and classes for the Mini Picassos around town. We strive to make the kids classes fun but also educational.

In one of our After School Camps we taught the students how to make mixed media spring flowers. We discussed how flowers grow in the spring time and how nature comes alive!

-39

We painted the background and glued old paint brushed to the canvas to make the stem. Next we painted petals and leaves onto the flower and stuck different colored paper to the paint. We also added buttons to the petals for a little pizzazz!

-38

At the end of the class the students had learned about plants growing in spring and also had a beautiful craft to take home!

We strive to make the classes educational.

Here at Vino and van Gogh we are constantly looking for new way to stimulate children's minds through creative kids classes. This week we decided it would be fun to teach a class on how to make abstract stained glass.....how did we hear about doing this?

The students used sharpies to decorate plastic cups

Marquin has illustrated a new book called Jazzy and the Dog Walk that is being sold in the studio.  It is perfect for a seventh grade reading level, but children as young as Kindergarteners have enjoyed it.  It is a sweet story about sharing and giving back to help those in need.

Painting with Kids at Sterling Elementary

I went to Sterling School for the second time this year to work with two sweet Kindergarten Classes.  We had a fun activity that anyone can do with their child: I supplied canvas board and pretty paint colors that the children used as we painted to music.

Since Christmas is around the corner, I played music from the Nutcracker and had students close their eyes and imagine shapes and lines which we in turn painted on our canvas.

I would suggest going one color at a time so that it does not become muddy.  Also, I highly suggest breaking out of the Primary Colors box and opting for different hues- mine are more bright and vivid pinks, blues, oranges and yellows.

In the end, your child (or group of kiddos) will have a unique abstract piece of art that bridges art and music.

How to Paint (or Draw) A Sweet Santa

How to Paint (or Draw) a cute little santa. This is really easy: just follow these simple steps

You will Need:
Paper & Pen (or Pencil) OR Canvas & Black Paint

Red, Green, White, Pink (or mix Red & White Paint), and any flesh tone.

1. Make a roundish puffy cloud shape near the top of the canvas or page.

2. Make more of a long ovalish puffy cloud shape 1/3 of the way from the bottom of the canvas.

3. Make two little black eyes beneath your oval cloud

4. Make an ovalish button nose slightly lower than the round eyes (yet centered between the eyes)

5. Make a wave shape on the left and then on the right beneath the nose to form the top of the mustache.

6. Make a swoop starting from underneath the nose to make the bottom line for the mustache.

7. Render in two half circles peeping out from the top line of the mustache.

8. Draw in Santa's shoulders on either side of the mustache.

Teacher Version

\

Youngest Student in the class: *4 Years Old* and looking great!

9. Add in black speckles on both of your clouds.

 10. Attach both 'puff balls' with a curvy line and a hook on the top.  (Above, Teacher Version.)

Student Version

 11. Then Render in Color: Red on the cap and shoulders, Green in the background, white on the 'cloud' parts, pink in the nose and cheeks, and any flesh color on the face.

Working away at Vino & van Gogh

The Finished Product! Great Job Kiddos: We added in white snowflakes on the background. Fabulous!
